Okay, so I know I have been blogging a lot, but an exciting thing has happened to me! I went to the Christian challenge tonight, which the message was awesome and reassuring of my identity in Christ, but I had received the opportunity to take a missions trip to Staten Island, New York, and help rebuild homes that have been affected by Hurricane Sandy. The trip would be over spring break this year, and would cost about $300. I think it would be an awesome opportunity, but I am also wanting to keep my options opened and look into a summer missions trip. So yeah, thought that was pretty awesome. I am definitely going to pray about it and just go where God leads me.
The message tonight:
We talked about our identity in Christ. We looked at the passage 2 Corinthians 5:17-21. The cliff notes versions of that passages is that we are new creation through Christ. Some things I wrote down is that anyone is made new through Christ, and that your past does not determine your future or even matter. And that God doesn't count your sins against you and they are not your identity. We are deemed righteous by God. Also, a thing he touched on was that we try to make a spiritual resume and compare them to other people. That creates the problem of proving ourselves to God, which is stupid because we cant fix the problem of being a sinful human. He also touched on that we sometimes don't always feel this big love God offers, but don't trust your feelings.. we should always trust the TRUTH, because emotions come and go.
The Love God gives us is given freely, not earned. His love is not contingent on right behavior.
For me, it reminded me that trying to find my identity in anything else is pointless. God is so good.
